SUSTAINABILITY CHAMPION AWARDS

 

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, the Colorado Environmental Partnership (CEP), CORE and ColoradoBiz Magazine are pleased to announce the 4th annual Sustainability Champion Awards winners:

 
  • Small Organizations (less than 50 employees):

  • Medium Organizations (50 – 499 employees):

About the Competition

 

The Sustainability Champion Award recognizes teams who have gone above and beyond required duties in the creation and implementation of a program or initiative that has made a measurable contribution to the environment, the economy, and society.

 

Who is eligible?

 

The award recognizes teams (i.e. groups of individuals representing a subset of an organization’s employees) from the following types of organizations: Industry, Educational Institutions, Business, Non-Profits and Local, State or Federal Government. Note: Organizations themselves are not eligible.

 

What are the criteria?

 

Nominees should have a demonstrated commitment to going above and beyond required duties in the creation and implementation of successful sustainability-oriented programs and initiatives. A total of 40 points are possible. Successful programs and initiatives will demonstrate benefits in the following areas:

 
  • Environment (10pts.)
  • Innovation (5 pts.)
  • Economy (10pts.)
  • Education (5 pts.)
  • Society (10 pts.)
 

What was the judging process for the 2011 Sustainability Champion Awards?

 

First round: fifty judges, representing local business, academic and government organizations, read and scored up to 11 applications in one of the three categories. Second round: representatives from CDPHE, CEP, CORE and ColoradoBiz reviewed and discussed 5 highest scored applications in each category and selected finalists.

 

Nominations were closed on January 6, 2011; the Awards ceremony took place on April 11, 2011. Please watch for the next round of the competition.
